I always knew I wanted to pursue a meaningful career where I could make a difference. My passion for science and caring nature naturally led the school careers advisor to suggest becoming a doctor. I studied hard and spent countless hours volunteering and participating in hospital work-experience programmes. I was accepted into Cardiff School of Medicine, but I missed out by a few marks on my final chemistry exam. I accepted my fate and packed my bags to move from South Wales to Manchester, to take my place to study Medical Biochemistry at The University of Manchester.

I enrolled on a 4-year course, which included a year in industry. It was during this time I discovered medical communications. I earned a place at one of the largest medical communications agencies in the world and I was hooked! I was able to combine my passion for science and people, and my business acumen in my role as a Junior Account Executive. After graduating, I relocated back to South Wales and accepted my first post-graduate job as an Account Executive. Thanks to some fantastic opportunities, a great team and a lot of hard work, I worked my way up to Senior Account Manager. I loved that job, but after 3 years I decided it was time for a new challenge, and that’s when I joined PharmaGenesis.

There are three main things that stand out to me at PharmaGenesis Cardiff. Firstly, our people, the people are fantastic, such a talented group of individuals with a wealth of experience. Everyone is so friendly and willing to provide support at any time. As per our philosophy, to excel as a team, we bring out the best in each other.

The level of training and support available is second-to-none. We are encouraged to participate in regular training sessions and have access to LinkedIn Learning. We have stringent quality control processes in place and, combined with the training opportunities, this allows us to produce work to the highest standard.

Finally, I have been extremely impressed by the investment and drive towards equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within the business. Not only do we drive EDI internally, but with our clients too. I was fortunate enough to be a part of a team that researched the inequities in access to publications in lower- and middle-income countries.

The most rewarding thing about my job is being able to help people. Whether that’s directly within our team, helping our clients to develop great work or helping physicians and ultimately patients through the work we do. You don’t have to be a doctor to make a difference. With the right team and the right support, you can do that every day.
